RESPECTED Publisher &Editors,
Being
a senior journalist with over 40 years professional experience including 13
years as Senior Sub-Editor in Daily DAWN, Karachi, Pakistan, and 17 years of
writing experience in Canada, I had great respect and regard for you all.
Unfortunately, some racists, excited, inexperienced and non-professional desk
editor/reporters of the Toronto Star keep writing sensational and
discriminatory stories. It clearly shows that they are indulging in angling and
deliberately targeting the Muslim and Pakistanis with sinister motive to
tarnish the image of the community and portray Pakistanis as terrorists, thieves,
robbers, poor and beggar.
The story written by your Social Reporter,
Laurie Monsebraaten, titled “Kids suffer
most as Toronto clings to title of child poverty capital”, chose Salma Jabeen,
a Pakistani, and her daughter, Zara, living in Thorncliffe Park Drive and
portrayed as very poor and could not afford luxuries like gymnastic, taekwondo
and swimming. After reading the story it clearly looked that Pakistanis belong
to the very poor class and and are not capable of contributing tremendously.
After seeing the picture of Salma Jabeen and her daughter the Canadians will
start considering the Pakistani community members as beggars and violent
people.
I
strongly protest against such negative portrayal of the community and demand
unconditional public apology from all concerned. I hold the editor and
publisher responsible for this because without their approval this story could
not have published.
The
Pakistani community comprises highly educated, professional, skilled and
technical people belong to good families and having very good and rich
background. No poor person could migrate to Canada. They can only dream but
cannot afford or qualify. This is the fact and true picture and not what your
justice reporter portrayed.
Even
the taxi drivers and labours in the factories are highly educated and had
served on senior positions in Pakistan. Most of them are permanent resident and
citizens and never indulge in any criminal or stupid activities. They focus on
earning and taking care of their families in a very respectable manner.
Go
to Downton and see the beggars asking for money. Find one Pakistani and present
it to me. Even find one in Thorncliffe. In my seventeen years stay in
Thorncliffe I have never seen any Pakistani begging for food or money.
Now
I am compelled to ask as to how much money was spent to write this story full
of fabricated lies. The innocent Pakistani women must have been tricked. Had she
known the motive she would have become a part of such hate story.
Before
trying to portray Pakistanis as bad and criminals again the reporter must visit
Toronto’s Downtown to see women on the streets selling their bodies and the
gays in action or the nude dancers exhibiting every part of their bodies. I
have nothing against them nor what they are doing. I dare challenge the Toronto
Star to find one single Pakistani at all these places.
It
is a fact that whosoever comes to Canada faces tough challenges and most of the
people come mentally prepared. We remain in the system and follow the system.
Over 95 percent Pakistanis are respectable and responsible citizen and
immigrants. They are contributing tremendously. Ask Salma Zahid, MP, and Iqra Khalid,
MP, and the Pakistani who is holding very high position in judiciary in
Ontario.
Please,
Please, Please. Stop such nonsense, which is badly damaging the credibility and
image of Toronto Star amd Canadian mainstream media. If you people are doing
such things deliberately I am prepared to defend and protect the Muslim and
Pakistani community at every step. You will find me a hard nut to crack.
